Hotel Sierra is a 4-star, 20-room hotel in the centre of Sintra, on Avenida D. Francisco de Almeida. It stems from the rehabilitation of a building of significant architectural value but in poor condition, which for decades housed the Cestaria Melo basketry shop, with a store, a wicker showroom and a flat in the attic.
The strategy starts by restoring the façades and fully reorganising the interiors. The annexes and additions that had gradually stripped the building of its character give way, at the rear, to new iron and glass volumes, in a contemporary language that contrasts with the materiality of the building to be preserved and makes the most of the views offered by the sloping site.
A ground-floor patio links the street to the vertical circulation. The first floor holds the reception and bar, connected to each other and opening onto a terrace with an outdoor fireplace, a pool of water and a garden. Services are grouped on the lower floor, with separate access from Rua Francisco Rodrigues Ferreira, keeping guest and staff routes apart.
